Birmingham England to Addis Ababa Ethiopia - 3/3

It was not long before the tents were up and the pots were on the fire. Fikire volunteered to cook to ease the burden of the drivers, who were myself, Tsagazahab and Habte. He is also the best cook amongst us so there was not a great deal of debate on that matter.

While the food was being prepared Starkey set up the mini studio. We had. decided to make the pre-production for our next album while we were on route. In the hope of capturing some of the moments we were to experience, and express them within certain songs in the future. We had initially planned to power the studio with a generator, but .the equipment proved too sensitive to cope with the fluctuations of the supply. Plugging into the supply provided by the campsite solved this.

Soon the sound of the reggae rhythm filled the camp. We have arrived! Dinner was served, as the day faded we settled down for our first night out in the open.

The heavens smiled upon us and we were afforded some glorious sunshine over the next few days. During that time, we became familiar with the campers on site and the local amenities. From time to time we would visit Mrs Snape and just chill out in her garden .In the evenings we would go down to the beach, watch the tide roll in and reason about any topic which was raised. We would generally spend an hour or so getting our fill of sea air. That along with a shower, a bowl of cereal and a nice fat marley soon had me ready to count sheep.

The next morning I was on my way to London to sort out the visas. This was going to take a few days to complete, so I stayed with my aunt. She took care of me just like mum. While I took care of business down south, up north the weather took a turn for the worst. Sunny days turned to gale force blues. In fact, upon my return early one morning, I found four brethren squashed up in one small tent. A result of being battered by the elements and chasing tents and other pieces of equipment across the fields.

The next few days found us breaking camp. The time was fast approaching for us to depart on the next stage of our journey. We spent the last period of time at Mrs Snapes house. There we re-packed the equipment and finalised the program for the Dutch leg. It was July 5th, the three jeeps set off to the docks in Hull. Fikire and myself in the Toyota, Habte and Starkey in the Mitsubishi and Tsagazahab and Haile in the Nissan. As we drove along, I thought about the big fat decriminalised spliff that I was going to manufacture on my arrival. The more I thought about it the more I smiled. Amsterdam, Amsterdam well loved by the Rastaman!
